Technical Principle Of Double-end Face Grinder: Precision Control Of Dual-axis Synchronization

Feb 02, 2026

The core technology of double-end face grinders lies in the simultaneous grinding of both ends of a workpiece through the synchronous rotation of two independent grinding wheels. Its working principle can be divided into two categories: through-grinding and planetary grinding.

In through-grinding, the workpiece is fixed in a fixture, and the upper and lower grinding wheels rotate in opposite directions at the same speed. Machining is completed through the axial feed of the grinding wheels, making it suitable for thin sheet-like workpieces. Planetary grinding, on the other hand, achieves a more uniform grinding effect through the combined motion of the workpiece's rotation and the grinding wheel's revolution, and is often used for cylindrical or irregularly shaped workpieces. This dual-axis synchronous control technology relies on a high-precision servo system and a dynamic balancing device to ensure the stability of the grinding wheel rotation and the flatness of the machined surface.
