Classification Of Double-end Grinding Machines

Double-end grinding machines can be classified into horizontal and vertical types based on the spatial arrangement of the grinding wheel spindle. Horizontal double-end grinding machines offer advantages such as convenient wheel angle adjustment and simple assembly, but they occupy a large area and have poor feeding stability for thin or irregularly shaped workpieces. Vertical double-end grinding machines have a smaller footprint and better feeding stability. Based on their housing structure, they can be divided into cantilever and frame-type double-end grinding machines.

 

Cantilever double-end grinding machines are characterized by simple structure, convenient processing and assembly, and low manufacturing cost. Frame-type double-end grinding machines offer better machine rigidity.

 

Double-end grinding machines can generally be classified into four types based on the workpiece feeding method: disc type, through-feed type, reciprocating type, and oscillating type. Disc type and through-feed type are the most commonly used.

 

Disc type: The feeding disc rotates continuously, and the workpiece is placed in a hole on the feeding disc. Driven by the feeding disc, it passes through the grinding zone between the two grinding wheels to complete the grinding process. This method boasts a high degree of automation and is suitable for flat parts of any shape.

 

Through-type: The workpiece is placed within a guide zone formed by two steel strips, and each workpiece sequentially pushes the previous one through the grinding zone. This method is highly efficient and allows for continuous production, but is only suitable for workpieces with relatively regular shapes.

 

Reciprocating and oscillating types are variations of the through-type and oscillating types, respectively. During grinding, the workpiece performs reciprocating linear motion or oscillation within the grinding zone, while the grinding wheel gradually feeds. These types of double-end face grinders are mainly used for machining small batches of workpieces with large grinding allowances or high precision.
